AEW Redemption Live: Kenny Omega Defends AEW World Title Against Kevin Knight in Montreal

All Elite Wrestling makes its first pay-per-view stop in Montreal tonight for the inaugural AEW Redemption, live from the Bell Centre — AEW has taped Dynamite and Collision there before, but never a PPV. With All In London looming on August 30, Redemption is the last major stop before Wembley Stadium: Kenny Omega makes the first defense of his AEW World Championship against TNT Champion Kevin Knight, with the winner set to face Will Ospreay at Wembley.

Elsewhere, Thekla defends the AEW Women's World Championship against a returning Willow Nightingale, with Mercedes Mone waiting at Wembley for the champion. Kyle Fletcher risks the International Championship against Bandido, and Chris Jericho reverts to his "Painmaker" persona to face Tommaso Ciampa in a No Holds Barred grudge match.

Jack Perry Vs. Mike Bailey Vs. Komander Vs. Nick Wayne Vs. The Beast Mortos Vs. El Clon

I missed the beginning of this match, so I'm sure I missed a lot of chaos. When I came in, they were already on the stage and Speedball did a moonsault off the ladder and then Perry did it as well.

There was a spot where El Clon had his hand on the contract but couldn't quite reach it. Mortos pushed the ladder up from the bottom and tipped him over, but Kommander did a dive off the ladder before hitting the mat. 

Clon did a double foot stomp onto the outside and on Bailey which went through the table. Then, Kommander did his running the rops spot into the dive through Wayne who was on the table. He think he was high enough in the air to grab the contract if he wanted.

Perry did a Canadian Destroyer on Wayne which started from on top of the ladder and threw a ladder bridge. The fans got excited because it looked like Speedball was going to climb the ladder and get the contract, but instead, he grabbed the ladder to do a spot. Speedball eventually got the contract.

The Young Bucks Vs. Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay

Ospreay came out to the Death Riders theme. 

Will and Nick bonked heads and Nick was woozy from it. Matt had him sit outside to hold the rail. It looks like the story might be if Will can pull the trigger on the Bucks when one of them is hurt.

Mox and Ospreay worked together to keep Matt in the center of the ring. When Nick was finally back on the apron, Matt went for the tag but Moxley pulled him out of the ring and gave him a piledriver on the floor. 

Nick finally tagged himself him as Matt was hesitant to tag him in because he's hurt. They went for the Meltzer Driver, but Ospreay caught Matt and put him in the Styles Clash while Moxley had Nick in the piledriver. 

Ospreay went off the top rope and hit Moxley on accident. It didn't affect them too much as there were tons of double team spots from both which ended in Ospreay hitting Matt Jackson with a Hidden Blade. 

Nick was woozy but still wanted to fight. Ospreay wouldn't hit him in the head until he couldn't keep Nick off. Nick was out. Ospreay wanted to knock him out on the ground, but Matt covered him. Will tagged out. Moxley threw Matt off Nick and tried to end it. Nick kicked out. Then he put him in a choke. Matt broke it up. Matt hit the Superkick on Marina on the outside and then also did it to Ospreay. Moxley hit the DDT twice on Nick and went for a chair. Ospreay broke it up and Matt took out Ospreay. They double teamed Moxley with superkicks to pin him because of Will's hesitation.

Winner: The Young Bucks

Bandido Vs. Kyle Fletcher

After the craziness of the first two matches, they slowed it way down. The best spot early on was Bandido doing an Asai moonsault to the outside and Fletcher superkicked him when he was midair. 

The crowd was on fire for a lot of Bandido's power stuff including the one-arm press slam which looked super impressive on huge Fletcher. Fletcher gave Bandido a brainbuster on the apron. Bandido teased not being able to get back into the ring, but he made it in and was immediately given a Last Ride bomb.

Bandido powerbombed him on the floor and then did a ridiculous frog splash from the top rope to the floor. 

They decided to do headbutt spots. Bandido hit a Blockbuster for a two count. Bandido hit the 21 Plex for a two count. Later in the match, Fletcher fired up on Bandido for a running knee and then the Brainbuster. Bandido kicked out. Fletcher hit him with a Michinoku Driver from the top rope for a two count. Then hit him with a Brainbuster from the top but didn't drop his head on the top rope. They missed it completely. Fletcher pinned him.

Winner: Kyle Fletcher

The Dogs vs. The Bang Bang Gang

This is a double chain match. And it's quite a mess. The chain is too long and these guys have to try and unravel it just to do spots. When Jay White and David Finley do stuff together, it's really good. But then they have to worry about the chain and it messes with the rhythm. 

You can only see so many swings with the chain in one match. Clark Connors was choking Juice Robinson with the chain and Finley used his leverage with the train to pull Jay White away from breaking it up. They eventually broke it up, but there was finally some strategy in this match.

Wheeler Yuta and Danny Garcia came out. The Gunn Brothers sent them to the back. Juice wrapped the chain around his hand to throw the big left. Marina Shafir, who was out with Wheeler and Garcia, handed Finley the shillelagh and he knocked out Robinson to pin him.

Winner: The Dogs

Renee was with Ospreay and Moxley interrupted him. Ospreay said he's not there to kill anyone. Moxley said he didn't want to be there when Will learns his lesson the hard way. And then he left saying that if Will wasn't going to pull the trigger, he will. 

Maya World Vs. Hikaru Shida

Maya was selling her right knee early. Even when she was making her comeback, she'd sell her knee which would allow Shida to recover. She went to the middle rope and missed the rope because of her knee and had to redo it. 

Shida hit the Meteora for a two count. The match really went to a bad place. They were wrestling a match for a different crowd. Shida's heel work was okay and got better at the end but the crowd wasn't feeling it. 

Shida was arguing with the ref, rushed Maya, and Maya caught her with her bridging back suplex.

Winner: Maya World

Pac & Claudio Castignoli Vs. Cope & Christian

The match started with Cope being attacked during his entrance. 

The show hit a little bit of a lull, but the crowd is reacting to Cope and Christian. Because of the last two matches, it seemed a little hard for them to get into it, but they got there. 

Lots of Cope selling and out the outside against Castignoli including getting hit with an uppercut that made him go over the barricade. 

Pac went for the Shooting Star on Christian who got his knees up and Christian cradled him for a two count. Copeland came back over the barricade and Claudio ran out to uppercut him again but took a back drop over the barricade. 

It was a double spear and a popup one to Pac for the win.

Winner: Cop & Christian

Tommaso Ciampa Vs. Chris Jericho

Jericho's in full Painmaker gimmick and he didn't come out to Judas. Jericho and Ciampa pulled out all the spots for this one to get the crowd back into it. Ciampa put on a Bruins jersey and attacked a stuffed animal version of Montreal's mascot.

Jericho busted out hockey pucks with thumb tacks on it for Ciampa to take bumps on. Ciampa was busted open because Jericho used sand paper on his head. Ciampa pulled out a knee pad with thumb tacks on it but Jericho put him in the Boston Crab. Ciampa grabbed a barbed wire bat to break it up.

Jericho brought out two mirrors. He went through one and then he slammed another on Ciampa. He grabbed the knee pad and hit the Judas Effect and Ciampa kicked out at two. He also sprayed mist in his eyes at some point.

Jericho grabbed a drill that Ciampa brought out and teased using it on him and Ciampa tapped out before it touched him. There was no blood until this match. There was a lot of blood in this match.

Mark Davis Vs. Andrade

They had a rough time getting the crowd into it after the Jericho match. Andrade went into the crowd and took a photo with a lady ringside, drank someone's beer and then spit it at Davis.

The crowd woke up for Andrade's moonsault over the ringpost to the outside on Davis. They also woke up for him taking off his pants.

The finish was Andrade escaping, hitting the reverse elbow, and then hitting his straight jacket DDT to win the match.

Winner: Andrade

Willow Nightingale Vs. Thekla

Thekla has a Lady Gaga look going on with her straight hair. Willow is the more aggressive wrestler, almost the opposite of how I envisioned the match. 

Mercedes Mone was watching a box. 

Thekla put on the Black Widow but Willow powered out. Willow no-sold her Spider Suplex as well. 

Thekla hit a cross body onto Willow on the outside. Thekla readied her for the spear, but Willow hit a Sunset Flip and then a Death Valley Driver. Willow took forever to set Thekla up for a moonsault off the top rope and missed it. Thekla went for a spear but got hit with a powerbomb and Skye Blue pulled her foot on the rope before the three count. Willow beat her out outside and powerbombed her. Back inside the ring, Willow walked into a spear but she missed a curb stomp and Willow rolled her up for the win.

Winner: Willow

Kevin Knight Vs. Kenny Omega

Knight jumped the gun and attacked Omega during the ring announcement. Knight used his wrist tape to choke Omega early. 

Omega got Dragon Suplex happy. He hit one inside the ring. Then he went to the apron and did one. Knight flew toward the table and randomly just took to cover off and Omega gave him one there too. 

Omega was trash talking Knight before giving him V-triggers. Knight was getting his ass handed to him until reversing Omega into a DDT. Omega was playing with him and started boxing. Knight reversed it only to get beat up again. 

Kenny went to the top and wanted to Snap Dragon him from the top, but Knight slipped out and Omega was upside down in the corner. Knight hit the Coast to Coast drop kick. Knight went to grab the belts and tossed one so that the referee could chase it and he could then try and hit Omega with the other. He eventually hit Omega with a slam on the TNT title. 

Omega eventually hit the One Winged Angel to win. Surprising how little offense Knight got.

Winner: Kenny Omega

The Death Riders attacked Omega after the match. The Bucks came out and quickly got dumped. Claudio set up a chair around Omega's neck and Ospreay interfered to stop him. Wheeler Yuta hugged Ospreay to get him away from Omega so that Claudio could stomp him but Ospreay caught him before he was able to do it. Ospreay had the chair and Moxley walked inside the ring. Moxley got the chair away from Ospreay. He had a plastic bag with him to put around Kenny's head. He wanted Will to put it on his head. Will circled Omega but ripped up the bag. He then hit Moxley with a forearm. He took out the rest of The Death Riders. He's a marked man. 

Ospreay and Omega shook hands to end the show. They went to the top rope both celebrating and then Omega hit him with the One Winged Angel.
